About FP7

Knowledge lies at the heart of the European Union's Lisbon Strategy to become the "most dynamic competitive knowledge-based economy in the world". The 'knowledge triangle' - research, education and innovation - is a core factor in European efforts to meet the ambitious Lisbon goals. Numerous programmes, initiatives and support measures are carried out at EU level in support of knowledge. (http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7).

The central objective of transport research under FP7 is to develop safer, greener and smarter transport systems for Europe that will benefit citizens, respect the environment, and increase the competitiveness of European industries in the global market.
Concerning aeronautics and air transport, since 2001 the Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE) aims at developing and maintaining a Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) for aeronautics in Europe.
A sustainable growth of aviation transport is expected until 2020, that’s why it is more and more important to reduce the environmental impact of civil aviation with regard to emissions and thus generating economic and ecological benefits for the European and the global society.

FACTOR project is directly in-line with ACARE targets. Main efforts will be done to provide accurate design process which will allow decreasing components weight and costs.
